TRAIN SERVICE
Freight Derailment Disrupts Amtrak Schedules
A freight train derailed yesterday in suburban Richmond, blocking some Amtrak traffic along the East Coast, including the auto train from Lorton to Florida. The service disruption might continue through today, Amtrak said.
Fourteen cars of an 81-car freight train being pulled by a CSX locomotive derailed in Henrico County just after midnight. The train was en route to Rocky Mount, N.C., from Cumberland, Md. No one was injured.
Amtrak officials said service from Washington to Richmond and Newport News resumed about 2:45 p.m. yesterday, but significant delays were expected because only one track was open.
