Arizona Lefty Davis Has Cancer
Arizona lefthanded starter Doug Davis has thyroid cancer, but plans on continuing in his normal spot in the team's rotataion.

¿ CONINE RETIRES: Jeff Conine signed a one-day contract with Florida so he could retire as a member of the team with whom he won two World Series championships.
Conine was 4 for 4 as the starting left fielder in the franchise's first game in 1993, and was part of Florida's title runs in 1997 and 2003.
Conine hit .290 in 1,014 games with the Marlins, and was the MVP of the 1995 All-Star Game. He finished his career with a .285 average, 214 home runs, 1,071 RBI and 1,982 hits in 2,024 games with the Marlins, Mets, Royals, Orioles, Reds and Phillies.
¿ TICKET PRICES SPIKE: Major League Baseball's average ticket price increased 10.9 percent this season to $25.40, the Team Marketing Report said. That's the steepest increase since a 12.9 rise in 2001.
The World Series champion Red Sox have the highest average at $48.80, up 10.1 percent.
¿ CONSOLO DIES: Billy Consolo, a former infielder and longtime Detroit coach, has died of an apparent heart attack. He was 73.
Former Tigers public relations director Dan Ewald said that Consolo died Thursday at his home in Westlake Village, Calif.
Consolo went from high school to the majors in 1953 when he signed with Boston. He hit .221 in 10 seasons with the Red Sox, Senators-Twins, Phillies, Angels and A's.
