The prosecution yesterday rested its case against three New York police officers in the death of Sean Bell, after days of emotional testimony from friends of Bell's who were in the car with him on the evening of Nov. 25, 2006, and were also shot.
Highlights from news reports on the testimony:
Joseph Guzman, on Bell's final moments:
"I thought it was over. So I'm telling him, 'S, I love you, son.' And he said, 'I love' -- he whispered back, 'I love you, too.' But then he stopped moving. He stopped talking.''
Trent Benefield, in testimony Monday:
"Joe told S to go, drive. . . . He started to drive. I felt a collision. . . . I covered my face. . . . I heard shots. . . . I felt myself get shot. My two calves, both. I opened the door and jumped out on the driver's side. I started running. . . . I got shot again, my right thigh. I fell to the ground."
