Defenseman Shaone Morrisonn has been ruled out for tonight's game against Tampa Bay with an upper body injury.
He left Tuesday's 4-1 victory over Carolina late in the first period after being checked by the Hurricanes' Jeff Hamilton and appeared to be favoring his shoulder. Morrisonn did not practice yesterday and his status for Saturday's regular season finale against Florida is uncertain.
One of the team's top penalty killers, Morrisonn is averaging 20 minutes 16 seconds per game, the third-highest total on the team among defensemen behind Mike Green, his partner, and Tom Poti.
Coach Bruce Boudreau said he does not anticipate recalling a player from the minor league Hershey Bears, and will instead use spare defenseman Steve Eminger. Though Eminger has appeared in only 18 games and has been a healthy scratch in 12 of the past 14 contests, the Capitals are 12-5-1 when he plays.
"I just want to help keep the winning streak alive," Eminger said. "I've been watching it. Now I want to be a part of it."
