At the end of a miserable season, the Knicks might have a reason to celebrate. Patrick Ewing, New York's career scoring leader, will find out today if he is elected to the Hall of Fame.

Growing up in Cambridge, Mass., Ewing said he made occasional trips to the Hall of Fame, located in Springfield, Mass. But he never thought about someday being a member of it, nor did he spend much time worrying about it as a player.

"You don't have time to think about it," said Ewing, now an assistant coach with the Magic. "You're concentrating on the present, trying to be the best player you can be."

Ewing, former Rockets star Hakeem Olajuwon and Heat Coach Pat Riley, all in their first years of eligibility, are the leading candidates. Riley coached Ewing in New York.

"Pat was one of the coaches that brought the great franchise of the Knicks back to the glory days and one of my best coaches," Ewing said. "It would be an honor to go in with him."

The 2008 class will be announced in San Antonio at the Final Four.

ยท SONICS 151, NUGGETS 147: Kevin Durant and Jeff Green both had their highest-scoring games of their rookie seasons last night with 37 and 35 points, respectively, to lead Seattle to a double-overtime win that damaged visiting Denver's playoff hopes.

Green, whose previous high was 23 points, scored 24 in the second half and overtime. He scored five quick points to start the second overtime for the SuperSonics (18-59), who need to win their final six games to match their franchise-low mark of 23 victories set in their inaugural season of 1967-68.

Carmelo Anthony scored 38 points for the Nuggets, who remained in a tie with Golden State for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
