Gilbert Arenas played his third game as the sixth man last night, entering with 3 minutes 43 seconds left in the first quarter, and Wizards Coach Eddie Jordan said his plan is to keep Arenas in a reserve role when the playoffs begin next weekend.
"Right now, yes. That's what I anticipate," Jordan said. "That's pretty potent to have Gilbert Arenas come off the bench. Who comes off the opponent's bench to match up with Arenas?"
Jordan said he would continue to play Arenas 20 to 25 minutes per game while Arenas works his way back to speed. Arenas missed 66 games after having knee surgery and scored 30 points combined in his first two games. Arenas sat out Saturday as a precaution.
Celtics Coach Doc Rivers said Arenas as a sixth man is a scary thought. "It's not good when he's playing against your first unit. He's not a sixth man. He's a starter," Rivers joked. "I'd rather have him as the 16th man. I like him far better then." . . .
Forward Antawn Jamison returned to the starting lineup after missing two games with a sprained right shoulder. Jamison injured himself diving into the stands in the Wizards' home loss against Milwaukee last week. He said rest and extra work with the trainers helped expedite his recovery.
"When it first happened, I definitely thought it was going to be a while. I'm glad it wasn't worse," Jamison said. "I think it's more psychological than anything. Monday I was scared to get my hands above my head. I think I can get it going. It would really have to be some freakish accident to hit that same spot again."
