PERSONNEL DEPT.
C Paul Lo Duca suffered a bruised right thumb when he was hit by a Jeff Bennett pitch in the third inning. He was replaced in the eighth by Johnny Estrada. "I couldn't hold the bat too well," Lo Duca said. X-rays were negative. "Hopefully the swelling goes down and I'll be in there Tuesday," he said. . . . 1B Nick Johnson appeared only as a pinch hitter, though Manager Manny Acta said his thinking had more to do with giving Johnson consecutive days off than because it was a particularly bad matchup with lefty Tom Glavine. Aaron Boone started at first and went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

"That's what it takes. It's destiny. You can always go hard, do whatever you want to do. But the guy above, he's got the last word."
