Closer Chad Cordero played long toss yesterday, and he should be available to pitch today. "It's just a matter of staying on my exercise routine," Cordero said of strengthening his right shoulder, in which he has tendinitis. Manager Manny Acta said he would like to use Cordero once in a non-save situation before he throws him into the closer's role. . . . RF Austin Kearns, hitting .193, wasn't in the starting lineup last night for the first time this season. Rob Mackowiak made his second start of the year.
