GOING UP
Cherry blossoms
Pretty pink flowers beginning to blossom on trees beyond Nats Park's left field wall. On the field, though, the bloom is clearly off the rose.
Elijah Dukes
Nats OF has probation reduced after cleaning cages at the zoo. Judge originally sentences him to LF for Nats, but Dukes's lawyers successfully appeal on basis of cruel and unusual punishment.
Jeff Novitzky
Lead U.S. steroid investigator moves from IRS to FDA. Unclear how much the government had to pay to get him to waive his no-trade clause.
GOING DOWN
Ray King
Nats' gregarious veteran lefty optioned to minors. Hands out his cell number to grateful reporters on his way out in case they need quotes on future bullpen collapses.
Lastings Milledge
Nats' CF benched after reporting to park late, breaking one of Manny Acta's three rules. Other two rules: Drive in a run once in a while, and catch the darn ball.
Curse of the Mitchell Report
Gagné, Lo Duca, J. Guillén, Byrd all struggling and/or hurt. On the other hand, Clemens is undefeated and Bonds hasn't struck out all year.
