Whatever blips and glitches may have occurred along the way (norovirus, mice, fire), Nashville-based Gaylord Entertainment did what it does best Friday night, welcoming VIPs to its newest hotel/convention center property.

A crowd of mostly local politicos (Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr., Prince George's County Executive Jack B. Johnson, County Council Chairman Samuel H. Dean) and out-of-town investors, all contributed to its long-awaited arrival coming-out party, said Gaylord chief executive Colin Reed.

For this, they were feted Tennessee style, by Charley Pride and Martina McBride, who posed for photos with special guests. At the end of the day, this is what its new owners and neighbors are hoping National Harbor will be: the backdrop of many a bragging wall moment.
