With the arrival of two new bus lines, the trip from Washington to New York City is now cheaper than Metro fare. Here is what you get for a buck.

· BoltBus, a division of Greyhound, departs Washington multiple times a day from 11th and G streets NW. In Manhattan, the bus drops off/picks up passengers at 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue or Sixth Street between Canal and Grand, depending on the route. Amenities include free WiFi, plug sockets in every other seat back, restroom and movies. (Not all buses show flicks; the decision hinges on the driver and/or travelers.) · Megabus currently runs low-fare buses around the United Kingdom and the Midwest, and will start service between Washington and New York on May 30. The bus will leave daily from the Gray Line area in front of the Union Station parking garage and unload/pick up on West 31st Street near Penn Station. Perks include free WiFi, plug jacks, restroom and movie capabilities. During the first week of service, all fares are free. Afterward, prices start at $1 one way.
