Here are some ways to ensure that you will have a hospitable habitat for butterflies:
· Locate your garden in a sunny area.
· Plant nectar-producing flowers that you know attract butterflies in your region.
· Plant single flowers, those with one row of petals. They are more accessible than doubles.
· Install host plants.
· Include shallow puddles for drinking and small flat rocks for basking in the sun.
· Don't use pesticides in or near a butterfly garden, even biological control agents such as Bt ( Bacillus thuringiensis), which kills caterpillars.
