Athletics: RHP Chad Gaudin is moving from Oakland's rotation to the bullpen, where he's spent most of his previous five major league seasons. The A's need to make room for the return of RHP Rich Harden, who is scheduled to come off the 15-day disabled list to start Sunday's series finale at Texas. Hardin was recovering from a right shoulder strain.
Blue Jays: One night after losing SSs David Eckstein and John McDonald to injury, Toronto purchased the contract of IF Jorge Velandia from Class AAA Syracuse and sent struggling OF Adam Lind back to the Chiefs. With both Eckstein (right hip) and McDonald (right ankle) feeling better yesterday, the Blue Jays chose to wait another day before deciding whether either player would wind up on the DL, with McDonald the more likely candidate.
Twins: Placed RHP Scott Baker (strained right groin) on the 15-day DL and called up RHP Kevin Slowey from a rehab stint with Class AAA Rochester. Slowey, who was rehabbing a right biceps strain, is scheduled to start today against the White Sox.
Yankees: RHP Ian Kennedy flirted with a no-hitter in his return to Class AAA on Tuesday, but settled for one hit through 7 1/3 scoreless innings. Starting for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre against Charlotte, Kennedy struck out eight, walked none and allowed just two base runners. He was optioned to Class AAA on Sunday.
