Elizabeth Tabor MulladyIntelligence Officer

Elizabeth Tabor Mullady, 91, a retired intelligence specialist with the Defense Department, died April 29 of congestive heart failure at her home in Falls Church.

Mrs. Mullady came to Washington in 1939 and began her career as a researcher with the executive office of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. She worked briefly at the Office of War Information before joining the office of the Army chief of staff for intelligence in 1943.

She transferred to the Defense Intelligence Agency in 1962 and was an intelligence specialist until her retirement in 1980. She helped prepare the Defense Department's daily intelligence report.

Mrs. Mullady was born in Portland, Ore., and graduated from Reed College in Portland. She received a master's degree in international relations from Columbia University in 1939 and later did further study at American University. She spent considerable time in the Middle East in 1956, studying with the Foreign Service Institute and at the American University of Beirut.

Mrs. Mullady was a member of the Annandale Women's Club, the Association of Former Intelligence Officers, and Civitan, a social service group. At the Annandale United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school, was president of the women's group and was a trustee.

Her husband of 49 years, Bernard R. Mullady, died in 1990.

Survivors include three children, retired Army Col. Brian P. Mullady of Springfield, Eileen McCarthy Smith of Gainesville, Fla., and Marcella Marcey of Falls Church; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
