BETHESDA-CHEVY CHASE: Sophomore Ebony Walters finished first on balance beam (9.5) and floor exercise (9.65) and won the all-around title Thursday at the Montgomery County gymnastics championships with a four-event score of 38.25. Walters finished second on vault to Blake's Denae Johnson (9.825) and second on bars to Blake's Nicole Williams (9.55). B-CC won the team title with a county-record score of 180.85 (five scores counting). Walter Johnson finished second with 179.95. Both teams advanced to the Maryland championships at Arundel on Wednesday.

CLARKSBURG: Junior Avery Graham won the 100-meter dash in 10.91 seconds and was runner-up in the 200 and in the shot put to spark the two-year old school to its first boys' team title Thursday at the Montgomery County track and field championships at Churchill.

DAMASCUS: All-Met senior Wil Zahorodny won the 800-meter title at the Montgomery County championships in 1 minute 51.15 seconds, a meet record and the third-fastest time in the country this season.

QUINCE ORCHARD: Wayne Bartholomew, Ryan Priovolos, David Laratta and Jeremiah Joson won the 4x800-meter relay at the Montgomery County championships in 7:49.6, a meet record and the ninth-fastest time in the country this season.

SOUTH COUNTY: Chrissy Kelly, who last season was an assistant women's basketball coach at George Mason University, was named the Stallions' girls' basketball coach on Wednesday. Before spending a season with the Patriots, Kelly coached at Forest Park High for seven seasons, guiding the Bruins to three Virginia AAA Northwest Region titles and two Virginia AAA championships. Kelly replaces Jason Grubb, who stepped down in March to pursue other interests.

STONEWALL JACKSON: Mike Dougherty was named the Raiders' football coach on Monday, replacing Loren Johnson, who stepped down after five seasons to take the coaching job at Highland Springs High in Richmond. Dougherty previously spent five seasons as football coach at Dominion High in Sterling, where he compiled a 14-36 record.

T. ROOSEVELT: Senior Juashaunna Kelly, who owns the District's fastest time in the 1,600 this season, has orally committed to run for Coppin State. At the D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association East-West Championships on Wednesday, Kelly won gold medals in the 3,200, 1,600, 800 and 400.

VHSL: The governing body's Executive Committee voted 25 to 1 to accept Virginia Tech's bid to host the 2008 Division 5 and 6 football championship games at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg. It also approved division championships in Group AA basketball, meaning the 2009 state tournaments will feature six games per day March 10-14 at Virginia Commonwealth University's Siegel Center. The committee also moved the first football practice date for the 2008 season to July 28.

WALTER JOHNSON: All-Met senior Chris Moen won the 1,600 in 4:13.05 at the Montgomery County championships, a meet record.

WOOTTON: Freshman Olivia Ekpone set meet records in the 100 (11.79) and the 400 (54.61) at the Montgomery County championships, sparking the Patriots to the girls' team title.
