Free Anti-Radiation Pills
Free potassium iodide tablets will be distributed Saturday to anyone living or working within 10 miles of the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant.
Distribution is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Patuxent High School, 12485 Rousby Hall Rd., Lusby. There will be a drive-through line so that those participating will not have to get out of their vehicles. One person will be allowed to pick up enough tablets for an entire household or workplace, according to the Calvert County Health Department, which is organizing the distribution.
Potassium iodide is a dietary supplement that can protect the thyroid gland from harmful effects of radiation that could be released during an emergency at the nuclear plant.
The boundaries of the 10-mile zone are described on the Health Department's Web site, http:/
In 2002, the department distributed 35,857 tablets. The expiration date for those tablets is March 2009.

The recycled containers will be hauled away to be made into plastic lumber and other recycled products. Only triple-rinsed, clean pesticide containers will be accepted. Information on rinsing the containers is available at http:/
