In advocating that the D.C. Council open Klingle Road [editorial, May 10], The Post would have had the D.C. government flout federal laws by ignoring the need for an environmental impact statement; spend an as-yet-undetermined amount of money ($12 million to $20 million and counting) to achieve, by its own analysis, no reduction of traffic in Ward 3; ignore more pressing transportation needs (potholes, deteriorating curbs and streets); destroy more tree cover; increase pollution in Rock Creek Park and the Chesapeake Bay; and limit access to one of the country's great urban parks.

Just because the D.C. Council did stupid things doesn't mean that it shouldn't correct such mistakes. The council was right to vote Tuesday to keep Klingle Road closed.
