Opening Gala at Annmarie

Tickets are available for the opening of the new Arts Building at Annmarie Garden Sculpture Park and Arts Center on Dowell Road in Solomons.

The black-tie opening gala is from 7 to 10 p.m. May 30.

With the purchase of a $95 ticket ($85 for Annmarie Garden members), guests will attend an evening that includes an exclusive preview of the opening exhibitions, live music, cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and the company of honorary guest Olga Hirshhorn. Hirshhorn is the widow of Joseph Hirshhorn, founding donor of the Smithsonian Institution's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington.

Two inaugural exhibitions that have been developed for the opening of the Arts Building. The main-floor exhibition, "Re.action," juried by Mark Ward, deputy director of the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, is designed to involve the viewer in the art through touch, observation and investigation. The mezzanine level exhibition, "Olga Hirshhorn Recollects," is a survey of modern art, including works by Picasso, Matisse and Miro. On loan from the Corcoran Gallery of Art, this exhibition is composed of selected works from a large donation made by Mrs. Hirshhorn to the Corcoran.

To purchase tickets for the opening gala, call 410-326-4640, e-mail gardeninfo@chesapeake.net, or download an RSVP card at http://www.annmariegarden.org.
