PERSONNEL DEPT.
RF Austin Kearns was out of the lineup for the second straight day with swelling in his right elbow. X-rays taken last night were negative, but Kearns -- who said he felt better yesterday -- will have an MRI exam today. . . . Dmitri Young made his first start of the season at first base last night. With starter Nick Johnson on the disabled list (wrist), Manager Manny Acta said he would use Aaron Boone as a late-inning defensive substitution for Young when the Nationals have the lead.
