Nationals Report

Lacking both command and confidence, LHP Matt Chico will head to Class AAA Columbus, where Nationals management hopes the 24-year-old can find some rhythm as a starter. Chico had served that role last season in Washington, and started 2008 doing the same -- until an 0-5 record and an ERA above 6 banished him to the bullpen. In his spot start Wednesday, Manager Manny Acta saw the same problems: "Instead of locating pitches low and away they were cutting over the plate," he said. GM Jim Bowden advised Chico to learn from Philadelphia's Jamie Moyer, who uses location to compensate for underwhelming velocity.

Players, plus cash, traded in 2003 by the New York Yankees to Cincinnati for Aaron Boone, whose home run in Game 7 of that year's ALCS sent the Yankees to the World Series. One of the players traded for Boone was Charlie Manning, now a teammate.
