Career: Ambassador to South Korea, 2004 to 2005; ambassador to Poland, 2000 to 2004; ambassador to Macedonia, 1996 to 1999; special envoy to Kosovo, 1998 to 1999; member of negotiating team at the Dayton Peace Accords, 1995; various jobs at State Department and White House.

Family: Married, three children.
