Discovery Communications wants audiences seeing green 24/7.
Starting Wednesday, Planet Green, a new digital and satellite cable channel available on most systems, will offer environmentally themed programming around the clock, including a series on a town that's being rebuilt to eco-friendly specifications, as well as cooking, celebrity and entertainment programs.
The new channel replaces Discovery Home.
The network expects viewers from among "boomers who look at longevity or legacy issues; first-time parents who want to do what is earth-friendly for their children; and college-age 20-somethings who have grown up in an environmentally conscious atmosphere," said Eileen O'Neil, president and general manager of the new venture.
Among original programming (all times Eastern):
· "Hollywood Green With Maria Menounos" looks at celebrities who are living more sustainably. Premieres Wednesday at 6 p.m., airs regularly Thursdays at 9 p.m.
· "Renovation Nation" shows how home owners are going green with home-building innovations. Premieres Wednesday at 9:30 p.m., airs regularly Mondays through Thursdays at 6 p.m.
· "Alter Eco" features Adrian Grenier and his "green team" of Los Angeles pals as they guide fellow celebrities and regular joes on eco-friendly living. Premieres Wednesday at 10 p.m., airs regularly Mondays at 9 p.m.
