Pickoff Is Key Play As Yankees Tag O's
Said Guthrie, "If I don't want to lose, I don't have to give up runs."
It might come to that.
Baltimore appeared ready early on to jump on Pettitte, who allowed eight hits in 6 2/3 innings, good enough for his 24th career victory against the Orioles. But after Roberts got to third base with just one out in the first, the Orioles failed to drive him in.
The Orioles briefly took a 2-1 lead on Mora's two-run homer in the third inning, the third baseman's second homer in as many days. But Mora's drive constituted the Orioles' only offensive highlight of the evening.
New York's Jason Giambi knocked in two runs -- including a solo homer that landed on Eutaw Street.
With the loss, the Orioles missed a chance to sweep the Yankees at Camden Yards for the first time since 2005, instead winning two of three before a four-game series with another difficult American League East foe, the Boston Red Sox.
"We came home and played pretty good baseball against the Yankees and we beat them two out of three," Mora said. "That's good for us."
