Dear Readers: Monica Anderson of Dallas sent a photo of her Burmese cat, Stinkerbelle, and a bearded dragon, Skeletor. They look like they are kissing. Monica says, "They both live in Dallas and became friends when I gave Skeletor's dad temporary shelter while he was waiting for an affordable apartment to become available."

If your newspaper doesn't print the pet photo, go to www.Heloise.com, and you will find Stinkerbelle and Skeletor there! -- Heloise

BIRD CAGE

Dear Heloise: How often should I clean my bird's cage? I do change the paper on the bottom every day, but what about a more thorough cleaning? -- Melody Alberts, Cibolo, Texas

Melody, avian specialists recommend thoroughly cleaning your bird cage at least once a week. Wash out food and water dishes, perches and other areas as needed. Your bird will appreciate the clean quarters! -- Heloise

OVERWEIGHT DOG

Dear Heloise: We took our dog to the vet because he had gained quite a bit of weight and acted like he didn't feel good. I thought I would share a couple of hints that the vet shared with us to get Scooter back in shape:

Cut back on treats (check to see how much fat and calories they have).

Give only the amount of food the vet suggests.

Add exercise for your pet.

Following these hints got Scooter back to his old self in no time! -- Brooke G. in Colorado
