Two 17-year-olds robbed a juvenile in Takoma Park yesterday, fled in a stolen minivan, snatched two purses in Prince George's County and led police on a chase that damaged three cruisers and injured two officers, authorities said.

A Prince George's police spokesman said the officers' injuries were not life-threatening. The suspects, who are from the District, were expected to be charged as adults, police said.

Shortly after noon, the two teenagers, one of whom implied he had a weapon, confronted a juvenile male in the 6400 block of Kansas Lane in Takoma Park, police said. Takoma Park officers soon broadcast descriptions of the suspects and the van.

Shortly after 3 p.m., a Prince George's officer spotted the van in the 4900 block of LaSalle Road in the Chillum Park area. The officer turned on his lights, "and the chase was on," said county police spokesman Clinton Copeland.

The suspects crisscrossed the Hyattsville area and then drove into the District, where the van rammed one of the Prince George's cruisers near Georgia Avenue and Varnum Street NE, Copeland said. The crash caused another police car to rear-end the first cruiser, he said.

The suspects bailed out near Kansas Avenue and Chillum Place, just inside the District. They were caught nearby, but a third police cruiser was damaged in the process. Montgomery County police said the minivan was stolen Wednesday in the District.
