SUPERIOR COURT
Jury Convicts Md. Man of Soliciting Murder
A D.C. Superior Court jury found a Silver Spring man guilty yesterday of soliciting the murder of a former boyfriend on whom he had taken out five life insurance policies totaling $500,000.
Prosecutors said Erik Collins, 44, of the 800 block of Thayer Avenue solicited two men to kill Lorenzo Boone, 22, formerly of Germantown. They said Collins offered to pay $1,000 to one man, who instead of killing Boone approached police. During the trial last week, another witness said Collins had offered him $5,000 to kill Boone.
Collins was convicted in 1999 of killing a man in the District with whom he had a relationship and had been on probation after being released from prison, prosecutors said. Collins is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 22.

METRO
Race Participants Warned of Track Work, Crowds
Metro is urging participants in the 19th annual Komen National Race for the Cure on Saturday to add at least 30 minutes to their travel schedule because of track work on the Yellow and Green lines. Metro will open at 5 a.m., two hours early, to accommodate participants. The race, held downtown, begins at 8 a.m.
Participants attending the 6:45 a.m. pre-race rally should use the Federal Center SW Station on the Orange and Blue lines or the Judiciary Square Station on the Red Line. Participants arriving for the race should use Metro Center on the Red, Orange and Blue lines; Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter on the Green and Yellow lines; or Federal Triangle on the Orange and Blue lines.
The Smithsonian, Federal Center and Archives stations are likely to be among the busiest on race day, so riders should consider using nearby stations, such as Metro Center, L'Enfant Plaza or Union Station.
