Big Brown's victories in the first two Triple Crown races were impressive, but if any of these things happen, he may not become the first Triple Crown winner in 30 years:

1. The quarter crack in his left front hoof, patched again yesterday, deteriorates during the 1 1/2-mile run.

2. Jockey Kent Desormeaux asks Big Brown for his best run too soon.

3. Casino Drive, a half-brother to the winners of the past two Belmonts, sufficiently recovers from an injured left hind hoof and is as talented as siblings Jazil and Rags to Riches.

4. Three-year-olds are still growing and capable of showing dramatic improvement: Denis of Cork, Tale of Ekati, Macho Again, Icabad Crane, Ready's Echo and Anak Nakal may not have peaked yet.
