PERSONNEL DEPT.

2B Ronnie Belliard, on the DL since May 19 with a left calf strain, began a rehab assignment yesterday with Class AA Harrisburg. . . . An MRI exam revealed loose bone fragments in LHP Matt Chico's elbow. He will be reexamined in Washington to determine the next step. . . . Dmitri Young, still under the weather with flu-like symptoms, missed his third consecutive start last night. . . . Manager Manny Acta, asked if Jon Rauch would be his closer when Chad Cordero returned, said only this: "We'll cross that bridge when we get there. Ask me that question the day before he's activated."

QUOTABLE

"To be in my back yard, right where I grew up playing Little League, it means a whole lot. I'm not [starting] here tonight, but just being here tonight is good enough for me."
