This season, injuries have hurt not just the Nationals, but also their minor league affiliates. One of the organization's most promising pitching prospects, 23-year-old LHP Cory VanAllen, was placed on the disabled list Thursday with a shoulder injury. VanAllen struggled last year at Class A Potomac, but this season he has become a revelation. In 10 games -- five with Potomac, five with AA Harrisburg -- VanAllen has compiled a 6-1 record and a 2.17 ERA. "We'll [have to] shut him down and build him back up," Washington GM Jim Bowden said. No timetable has been set for VanAllen's return.
