Falls Church Concerts to Start

The annual Falls Church concerts in the park will be at 7 p.m. Thursdays, starting next week through Aug. 7, at Cherry Hill Park, 312 Park Ave.

Local artists and artwork will be featured at the free concerts. In case of inclement weather, concerts will be in the Falls Church Community Center, 223 Little Falls St.

Orchestra to Inaugurate Show

The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra will present the regional premiere of Peter Boyer's "Ellis Island: The Dream of America," with the Theater of the First Amendment supplying the actors, at 8 p.m. Saturday at George Mason University's Center for the Arts, at Braddock Road and Route 123, Fairfax.

A pre-concert discussion with the composer will begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $15 to $45. This is not part of the symphony's Masterworks subscription package and requires separate tickets. For information, call 888-945-2468 or visit http://www.tickets.com.

Festival Anchors Blues Weekend

The Tinner Hill Blues Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Cherry Hill Park, 312 Park Ave., Falls Church.

There will be blues events throughout Falls Church tomorrow through Sunday; some might have fees.

The Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1997, promotes multicultural understanding and honors the contributions of civil rights pioneers who lived in Falls Church during the early 1900s. This year's festival pays tribute to Piedmont Blues icon John Jackson.

There will be Early Bird Blues at 9 a.m. Saturday at the farmers market, 300 Park Ave. The festival opens at 11 a.m., featuring Danny Blue & the Blues Crew, Acme Blues Company, Catfish Hodge, Deanna Bogart, Bobby Parker & the Blues Night Band, Nadine Rae & the All Stars and Memphis Gold Band.
