To aid the recovery of a torn tendon sheath in his right wrist, 1B Nick Johnson was supposed to wear a cast for two weeks. Instead, he needed it for four weeks. But yesterday, team orthopedist Benjamin Shaffer removed the cast, enabling Johnson to begin a rehab program. Johnson has been on the DL since May 15; the team originally figured he'd miss four to six weeks. . . . The Nationals sent RHP Tyler Clippard back to Class AAA Columbus and will recall C Paul Lo Duca, who went 1 for 11 while rehabbing from a right hand injury in Columbus.
