If you can't have champagne, particularly rosé champagne, which goes with virtually all types of barbecue, then let the meat or the sauce be your guide when matching it with wine.
· Choose by type of meat:
Chicken: chenin blanc, rosé
Pork: Beaujolais-Villages, rosé
B eef and lamb : cabernet sauvignon, shiraz/syrah, zinfandel
Hot links: Riesling, rosé, sparkling wine
· Choose by sauce:
Sweet: fruit-forward wines, such as Riesling, shiraz or zinfandel
Tangy: high-acid wines, such as Barbera or Chianti
