A minor fire in a Falls Church home killed a man early this morning, authorities said.

Fairfax County fire officials are still investigating what happened in the two-story brick house in the 2700 block of Annandale Road in Falls Church.

A fire was reported at the residence around 1:30 a.m. after a smoke alarm woke two of its three residents, all men who were not related.

When officials arrived, they found the third resident on the first floor with severe burns, said Fairfax Fire and Rescue spokesman Dan Schmidt. The man died soon after emergency officials arrived. His identity was not released.

Schmidt said the cause of the fire and the man's death are still under investigation. The fire apparently started in the kitchen and caused just $700 in damage to the house and its contents, Schmidt said.
