7:30 p.m., Dupont Grille, Dupont Circle
Ally: The day of the date there was lots of traffic. I was mortified that I was going to be late, so I called the restaurant. When I got there, there was this really good-looking guy standing next to the host stand. I wasn't expecting someone so handsome.
Ilan: We were both like, "Are you So-and-So?" She went for a handshake; I forced a hug. She was really pretty. I was poking fun at her for being late. I was, like, 10 minutes late, but I pretended that I'd been five minutes early.
Ally: I said, "It's not that big of a deal," and hit him on the shoulder. That was probably within two minutes of meeting him. I was already comfortable. They took us to a table outside.
Ilan: Right away, we started talking about where we both grew up, where we live now, what we do for a living. She has a really strong personality, she's really outgoing, speaks her mind, and she has a funny, inappropriate sense of humor, which is great.
Ally: It was a long time before we cracked the menus. We talked about traveling and about families. He's close to his brother, and I'm close to mine. I think our attitude toward life was really [similar]. We're both upbeat, optimistic, maybe even a little idealistic. And I'm really sarcastic, and he totally was able to match me, so that was good.
Ilan: I told her that I'd read an article that said people normally know within 10 seconds of meeting on a blind date whether they'd be willing to go out again. I said that I wouldn't. I was just joking, and she knew it. I thought there was potential.
Ally: After dinner, we were really full, but we didn't want the night to end, so Ilan was like, "Why don't we go somewhere?" We decided to go to the Big Hunt and have a drink. I didn't have any cash, so I went to the ATM but couldn't remember my PIN. He was making fun of me. I was freezing, so I was hugging myself. He was like, "Is this my cue to give you a hug?" He put his arm around me. That was nice.
Ilan: I was being a gentleman. But, yeah, I felt attracted.
Ally: [At the bar,] we tried to take a picture of him fake proposing to me. That was his idea. I mentioned that my friends are having a party Saturday night and he was welcome to come. He said, "Yeah, sure." We left the bar at about midnight.
Ilan: She gave me a ride to my car. We both said we had fun and that we should hang out again. We exchanged numbers, and then it was a hug and a kiss on the cheek. I'd rate the date a 5 [out of 5]. She was really cool.
Ally: I'd give it a 5. He was really awesome and cool, and really hot and a nice guy. It's a rarity. He was flirty, but that could be just his personality. I'd want to hang out more to figure out if it's something that could develop romantically.

UPDATE: Ilan didn't make it to the party, and Ally left for an extended trip. So far, they're keeping in touch.
