· Use your security system. (According to a 2005 Farmers Insurance Group survey, more than half of those polled never use their home alarm system.)
· Update security-system information -- especially your address, if you have a self-installed system or connect via the Internet -- so your alarm service can respond properly.
· Test your security system regularly, and repair malfunctions, especially those causing false alarms, which may lead to people ignoring real emergencies.
· Display security-system signs.
· Let neighbors know what to do if your alarm sounds.
