As they pick at their salads and sip their mineral water, they lament, oh, they sooo lament, the clumsiness of the naive new commander in chief who foolishly failed to heed their wise counsel.
"We" becomes "they" without so much as a batting of the eye.
With Washington insiders, personal aggrandizement is everything.
Does this mean there's no role for such people in a presidential campaign or future administration? Of course not. They know stuff. Just don't put them in charge.
Equipped with common sense and a good nose for what is bovine and stercoraceous, a president can learn from Washington insiders, at least enough to avoid some of the perils of inside-the-Beltway politics.
But beware: Those folks come with a price.
