Olympic Torch Carried Through Tibetan Capital

The Olympic torch relay resumed Saturday in Lhasa, Tibet's capital, where rioting in March helped fuel demonstrations at some of the flame's international stops and drew a government crackdown.

Tibet has been under a security clampdown since March and is still closed to foreign tourists. Foreign journalists have been allowed to visit only as part of closely monitored government tours.

Under the plan announced Friday, vehicles will be allowed on the roads on alternate days, according to even or odd car registration numbers, from July 20 until Sept. 20. And 300,000 heavy industrial trucks will be banned from July 1.
