A group of Australian farmers visited Southern Maryland last week to learn about alternative crops, organic farming, aquaculture, vineyards and agricultural marketing strategies. The trip was organized by the Nuffield Farming Scholarship program.
The Aussies swapped ideas with local farmers, dined on organic produce, attended a Mennonite auction, learned about zoning practices and toured the Chesapeake Bay. They were hosted by the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission and the University of Maryland's Hughes Center for Agro-Ecology.
