Records: Washington 5-8, Sparks 10-3. Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles.
When: Tonight, 10:30. TV: none.
FOUL CENTER: Starters Nakia Sanford and Monique Currie have the sixth- and seventh-highest averages for player fouls per game, with 3.8 and 3.7, respectively. While accumulating four or more fouls eight times this season, Sanford has allowed her emotions to interfere with her effectiveness, subsequently decreasing her playing time and forcing the Mystics to rely on rookie Crystal Langhorne at center. Against Phoenix, the 6-foot-4 Sanford failed to record a single shot for the first time this season, and she's averaging 6.6 points per game, her lowest total since 2005. But while Washington waits for Sanford to rein herself in, it is looking for Langhorne to hit her stride as well. The former Maryland star recorded the best game of her season on June 11 against Sacramento with 13 points and 10 rebounds but has yet to reach that level again, averaging four points per game.
LAST DANCE: Not much has changed since Los Angeles deflected each of Washington's comeback tries for a win on May 31. Led by Lisa Leslie and Candace Parker, who are tied as the league's top rebounders with 9.7 each, the Sparks are the WNBA's best rebounding team (40.6 per game) and the third-highest scoring team (80.1).
