Constance Elizabeth BrantTeacher

Constance Elizabeth Cronin Brant, 89, a retired Kensington schoolteacher, died of pneumonia June 21 at her home in Chevy Chase.

Mrs. Brant was born in Cambridge, Mass., and graduated with a history degree from Radcliffe College in 1940. She served as an ensign in the Coast Guard during World War II and worked in naval intelligence in the District.

After her marriage in 1944 to John Myers Brant, a Harvard Law School graduate, she and her husband moved to Rochester, N.H., where he practiced law and served as county solicitor. She worked in his law office.

The couple moved to Chevy Chase in 1959, and Mrs. Brant became a teacher at Larchmont Elementary School in Kensington. She taught in grades two through six and retired in 1982.

Mrs. Brant was active with the Woman's National Democratic Club of Washington, Bethesda Help and Chevy Chase community affairs.

Her husband died in 1972.

Survivors include three children, Elizabeth Brant of San Francisco, Catherine Haverstock of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Margaret Brant of Chevy Chase; a brother; a sister; and three grandchildren.

Jean M. CravenArmy wife

Jean M. Craven, 87, an Army spouse who grew prized roses, died of cancer June 12 at her home in Laurel.

Mrs. Craven was born in Hiawatha, Kan., and spent her childhood on the family farm. She attended Kansas State University, where she met her future husband and married in 1941.
