She'd Like a Fish, Without Water

One day, when my oldest daughter was about 2 or 3, she asked me if she could have some goldfish. I thought that was a good idea, since we didn't have any critters at the time, so we got right in the car and went to the pet store. Once there, I led her to the goldfish tank and told her to pick a couple she liked. But she just stood there, a bewildered expression on her face.

"You don't like these?" I asked her.

She looked up at me and said, "But I wanted re al goldfish."

Took me a second, but I realized she'd just been asking for Goldfish crackers.
