HANCOCK-- Opens Wednesday. Ever have one too many drinks, attempt to aid a buddy in a bar fight and end up breaking a wall of mirrors and setting the stairs on fire? Then you're kind of like John Hancock, the deadbeat alcoholic superhero played by Will Smith in this comedy. It doesn't look so hot, but perhaps co-star Jason Bateman will swoop in ("Swoop me!") and save the day.

KIT KITTREDGE: AN AMERICAN GIRL-- Opens Wednesday. No, that cute girl from "Little Miss Sunshine" did not decide to put her career on hold to finish her education. She's right here, in this Depression-era drama based on the American Girl book series.

AFI SUMMER SERIES-- See Can't Miss.

ALEXANDRA-- Opera legend Galina Vishnevskaya plays a woman who visits her grandson at a remote military outpost. The film, directed by Alexander "Russian Ark" Sokurov, played the Cannes, Toronto and New York film festivals. Landmark's E Street Cinema, 555 11th St. NW. 202-452-7672. $7-$9.75.
