The June 23-24 "Hearts and Minds" series reminded us of how poorly the U.S. government has set its priorities and focus in fighting the war on terrorism. The Bush administration strategy that stresses the capture and killing of al-Qaeda leaders who are "high-value targets" ignores the fact that Osama bin Laden recruits far more newcomers to replace those who are lost.
A significant portion of the funds being spent on the Iraq war should be redirected to help the satellite network al-Hurra disseminate ideas and information to Muslim hearts and minds in nations where there is so much hostility to U.S. foreign policy.
