Free Lunch for Kennedy Group Students
County officials launched a free summer lunch program Monday in Silver Spring for all students in the county's John F. Kennedy High School cluster. Students from the high school, Argyle Middle School and Georgian Forest, Strathmore and Bel Pre elementary schools are eligible for a free meal from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 15 at the Georgian Forest cafeteria, 3100 Regina Dr. in Silver Spring.
The program marks the county's first "open site" free lunch program, which entitles any of the cluster's 3,500 students to a free lunch regardless of enrollment in a summer program.
A "lunch circulator" bus will pick up students at eight locations. The buses will run every 30 minutes from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Ride On and Metro buses will provide free tokens, available at any of the participating schools, to students traveling to the program. For information, call the office of county council member Valerie Ervin (D-Silver Spring) at 240-777-7970.
