Man Robbed Helping Another
A good Samaritan stopped to check on a man lying in a street south of Alexandria early Thursday and was robbed at gunpoint by the man and a partner, Fairfax County police said.
The attack occurred about 2 a.m., when the Alexandria area victim, 41, got out of his car in the 2200 block of Huntington Avenue to help the man in the street, police said. The other robber, armed with a handgun, jumped the victim, who handed over his cash and was kicked in the stomach by one of the assailants, police said.
The assailants got into a car driven by a third man, and the car headed toward Telegraph Road. The victim was taken to Inova Alexandria Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Man Struck, Killed in Forestville
A young man was killed crossing Pennsylvania Avenue at Donnell Drive in the Forestville area about 11:30 a.m. yesterday, Prince George's police said. The man, who is believed to be between 18 and 20 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A black Chevrolet Envoy sport-utility vehicle struck the man in the eastbound lanes of Pennsylvania Avenue. The driver remained at the scene. Police had not identified the victim, and the investigation is ongoing.

Driver Injures Woman, Kills Dog
A woman was critically injured and a Dalmatian died early yesterday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Takoma Park, authorities said.
Police found the unconscious woman in the 6900 block of New Hampshire Avenue near Devonshire Road about 1:30 a.m. She was taken to a hospital.
Police are looking for a black Honda with a Maryland license plate 8EBS91. Anyone with information should call Takoma Park police at 301-270-1100.

Woman Killed in Crash Identified
A 60-year-old woman who died Thursday after her car crashed into a backyard deck has been identified by police as Isaura Justina Mateo of Germantown.
Mateo, who lived in the 20000 block of Dunstable Court, died after her 1994 Subaru Legacy station wagon crashed into a deck attached to a house in the 19700 block of Maycrest Way about 4:40 p.m.
Mateo lost control of her vehicle as she fled from the scene of an earlier accident with a gray 2005 Nissan Pathfinder, police said. The sport-utility vehicle's driver was following her at the time of the crash. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Victim of Crash Is Named
An 80-year-old Gaithersburg man who died as a result of injuries he received during a car crash Thursday afternoon was identified as John Langford Eubank Jr., authorities said.
Eubank, who lived in the unit block of Portside Court, died at Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after a crash at Midcounty Highway and Woodfield Road at 1:12 p.m.
Eubank, who was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger, was attempting to make a left turn onto Woodfield Road from eastbound Midcounty Highway when he collided with a blue 1997 Honda Accord traveling westbound on the highway.
The Honda was driven by Marco A. Ekonomo Martinez, 25, of the 18200 block of Swiss Circle in Germantown, who was taken to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville with injuries that were not life-threatening.
