QB Brennan Agrees to A Deal With Redskins

Colt Brennan, a record-setting quarterback drafted out of Hawaii, agreed to contract terms with the Washington Redskins, the team announced yesterday.

Brennan will receive a signing bonus of less than $100,000 as part of a standard four-year contract for rookies, said a source familiar with the negotiations who requested anonymity because the contract had not been signed. Brennan will earn $295,000 this season, $385,000 the second season, $470,000 the third and $555,000 the fourth.

Of the Redskins' 10 draft picks, only their top two selections -- wide receiver Devin Thomas and tight end Fred Davis-- are unsigned with training camp set to begin Sunday at Redskins Park. Washington used a sixth-round pick (186th overall) on Brennan, who played in a run-and-shoot offense in college.

The Redskins are committed to Jason Campbell as the starting quarterback and Todd Collins as the backup, so Brennan (6 feet 2, 201 pounds) will compete for the No. 3 job. In three seasons at Hawaii, Brennan set 21 NCAA records. He passed for 14,193 yards with 131 touchdowns while completing 70.4 percent of his passes. Brennan did not participate in offseason workouts with the Redskins because he was recovering from surgery April 7 to repair a slightly torn labrum in his hip.

The team also announced that it has released defensive end Dorian Smith, an undrafted rookie out of Oregon State. Smith originally joined the Redskins as an undrafted free agent on May 1 before being released May 27. The team signed him in early June.
