FAIRFAX COUNTY

Missing Man a Suspected Suicide

Friends who were looking for a missing Fairfax County man apparently found him in the Burke area yesterday morning, and police were investigating his death as a possible suicide.

Mark David Radcliffe, 31, had last been seen July 6 at his home in the 5500 block of Glasgow Woods Court, police said. He had been scheduled to travel to Chicago that day but did not go, police said. Friends told police Radcliffe had been distraught recently.

A group searching for Radcliffe in a wooded area near Sideburn Road and Bonnie Brae Elementary School discovered a man's body about 7:30 a.m., police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said. Police were waiting for a dental comparison before saying the body was definitely Radcliffe's. No cause of death was released pending an autopsy today, but police said they did not suspect foul play.

STATE GOVERNMENT

Kaine Encourages Teleworking

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D) announced yesterday that 120 employees in the governor's office and Cabinet would be eligible to work from home part of the week and directed all state agencies to consider ways to improve and expand alternative work schedule programs.

"Rising fuel prices, the escalating cost of commuting to work, worsening traffic congestion and reduced air quality compel a change in the business culture of state agencies," Kaine said in a statement.

More than four dozen employees have already started teleworking for part of their week. Employees are required to sign an agreement with their supervisor detailing the terms and conditions of their alternative work schedule.
