It is impossible to have too much attic ventilation. But achieving an adequate amount can be an aesthetic challenge. Many people do not want their roofs cluttered with fan housings or twirling vents. There is no silver-bullet solution when it comes to attic fans. A certain model may work wonderfully in one part of the country but do a poor job in another. Your house may not be sited well for solar- or wind-powered solutions.
A fan powered by household electricity is probably the most promising as it will move tremendous amounts of air and can do so until the attic temperature has dropped significantly. Your challenge will be installing enough fans to keep your attic temperature just above the outdoor temperature on the hottest day of the season.
