Yesterday's Send a Kid to Camp column was about The Hike: the arduous uphill climb that is a rite of passage for the youngsters at Camp Moss Hollow.

The Hike is a metaphor for the disadvantages these children are trying to overcome. But it's also a metaphor for our fundraising struggles. As the campaign enters its final stretch, we stand $98,747.17 short of our $475,000 goal.

And now, like a mountain guide extending a helping hand, comes a donor offering to match up to $75,000 in donations.

We will take donations through the weekend. Send a check or money order payable to "Send a Kid to Camp" to P.O. Box 96237, Washington, D.C. 20090-6237. Contribute online by going to http://www.washingtonpost.com/camp. You'll see a place to make a donation. Click there.

To give by MasterCard or Visa by phone, call 202-334-5100 and follow the taped instructions.

Don't forget that proceeds from today's Rhode Island calamari appetizer at area McCormick & Schmick's restaurants and M&S Grills go to Send a Kid to Camp.

We have almost reached the summit. With your help, in just a few more strides, we'll be there.
