A 30-year-old Waldorf man was killed Monday when his motorcycle crashed into a bus that had turned in front of him on Route 5 in Hughesville, police said.

Timmy J. Corman was traveling north on Route 5 about 6:40 p.m. when the bus, traveling south, turned left on Gallant Green Road, police said. Corman's blue Suzuki motorcycle hit the side of the bus, and he died almost instantly, police said.

"It looked like he laid his bike down on the side trying to avoid it," said Lt. Randy Stephens, commander of the Maryland State Police barracks in La Plata.

The bus driver, Charles H. Crew Sr., 59, of Prince Frederick, was not seriously injured. The bus was not carrying passengers, police said. No charges had been filed as of Tuesday.

Stephens said the accident was under investigation.

Police said they did not know how fast Corman was traveling when he hit the bus. They released no further information about him.

The bus is owned by Keller Transportation, which is subcontracted by the Maryland Transit Administration. David Richardson, Keller's general manager, said Tuesday that Crew had not been suspended but that he would not be assigned to any routes until the investigation is complete.

Richardson said the company was working with police to help reconstruct the crash.

Crew had been driving with Keller for more than a year and had a clean record, Richardson said. He said Crew, who was assigned to several routes, was returning to the company's garage on Gallant Green Road at the time of the crash. He said he did not know what route Crew had driven that day.
